Channel 4 News report on torture of West Papuan civilians by the Indonesian military

Report from Channel 4 News in the UK, on the horrific torture of West Papuan civilians by the Indonesian military.

Komentar
@fernando86ht NOT all wars had been like this in history. This isn’t war, it’s terrorism.

Soldiers who terrorise and torture unarmed civilians aren’t soldiers, they’re just terrorists; thugs in uniform. Soldiers fight soldiers; Bullying and torturing others in a weaker position is regarded COWARDLY.

It pisses me off that our government GIVES this slimeball little regime OUR MONEY because (??)

I say we boycott the bastards at every possible point and squeeze them out of .

That is fucking disgusting!

Cowards,I doubt they are. They are at least there, and you and me sitting infront of these tiny computers bitching like old mamas.Only difference is,that nowadays, with videos we see astrocities.Torture,we can be tortured to death by a crazy wecho who may want our watch, wallet. The greatest torture is that we are fed with lies that war is some kind of picnic.Nations should be dissolved, weapons would destroy us,and our ego to overpower the other is our own enemy in our daily life where it all starts.

all wars had been like these in histories. These soldiers are trained to kill and torture, and this is their job as usual when they go more crazy after they kill one person. Those who think that wars are some picnic are blind and hypocrits like these peace movements, when they themselves enjoy the richness of their own nations, and condemn either their own country or others. These soldiers and terrorists are more honest in their actions.Iraq,Kashmir,WWs,Afhanista,Chechenetc, all r same

Indonesian Police / BRIMOB officers tour tourte and Kill of Yawan Wayeni n.3gp.flv

On August 3, 2009, Yawen Wayeni of Matembu village, Serui, in the Indonesian province of Papua, was captured by Indonesian paramililtary police (BRIMOB). Wayeni was an escaped political prisoner who had been accused of burning police vehicles and buildings. At the time of his arrest, local NGO sources claim Wayeni was unarmed and not politically active. These same sources maintain that during interrogation into the whereabouts of local pro-independence guerillas (OPM/TPN), BRIMOB officers sliced Wayeni’s abdomen open with a bayonet, causing his death. BRIMOB maintains that Wayeni’s injuries came while he was resisting arrest with a homemade firearm. The following photos and video of the incident were taken by BRIMOB officers and leaked by unknown sources.
The Indonesian government rejects allegations of state violence in Papua, but as long as restrictions on international media and NGO access to Indonesian Papua — tight and growing tighter — remain in place, no independent verification of the facts will be possible, and actions of security forces will continue to be questioned.
If the situation in Indonesian Papua disturbs you, please contact your elected representatives. US citizens please ask your Congressman to support H Res 1355.
Please be advised that the following footage is graphic and could be distressing to some viewers.

Torture Tribunal in Indonesia (East indonesia Melanesian islands Papua)

Four Indonesian soldiers appeared before a military tribunal on Friday after they were allegedly shown torturing and threatening Papuan civilians in a graphic online video.
It comes days ahead of a visit by US President Barack Obama to the Southeast Asian country and on the heels of the Pentagon’s announcement in July that it would resume ties with Indonesia’s special forces.
The footage, posted online by human rights activists, showed soldiers applying a burning stick to the genitals of one of the unarmed men and threatening another with a knife.
The video drew international attention to allegations of widespread torture and abuse of activists and civilians in restive Indonesian regions such as Papua and the Maluku islands.
Three low-ranking troopers appeared in the morning — Second Private Syaminan Lubis, Second Private Joko Sulistyo and Second Private Dwi Purwanto from the 753 Arga Viratama infantry unit based in Nabire, Papua province.
Two other soldiers were called to appear as witnesses, one of whom, a lieutenant, appeared separately as a defendant in the afternoon. His name was not immediately available from the military, which refused to answer questions about the case.
The four defendants have been charged with disobeying orders, according to the indictments read in court. There was no mention of any charges relating to the alleged physical abuse of the two civilians.
The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper, which first reported on the existence of the video, quoted one of the victims as saying the torture went on for days.
Quoting video testimony released by Papuan activists, it said Tunaliwor Kiwo was burned with hot wires and cigarettes, repeatedly suffocated with a plastic bag and had a concoction of chili and salt rubbed into his open wounds.
“I kept screaming. But they didn’t care of the pain I suffered,” he was quoted as saying in the report Friday.
“The TNI (military) put gasoline and lit a fire and I was in the middle with the branches,” he said.
“I couldn’t move, the flames were approaching me, trying to burn my body and my legs and hands were still tied up. I was continuously hysterical, in pain.”
Kiwo and fellow victim Telangga Gire are in hiding, fearing reprisals from the Indonesians, the report said.
The incident occurred earlier this year in an area of Papua where Indonesian troops frequently clash with poorly armed separatist rebels from the indigenous Melanesian majority.
Rights groups including Amnesty International have demanded Indonesia punish the culprits and end an entrenched culture of impunity in the country’s security forces.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Monday there was “no immunity” for members of the country’s armed forces, ahead of talks in Jakarta with visiting Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
The United States in July announced it would lift a 12-year suspension of contacts with the Indonesian special forces, as a result of what Defense Secretary Robert Gates called “actions…to address human rights issues”.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made a brief visit Wednesday to Papua New Guinea, the independent eastern half of New Guinea island, and stressed the importance of women’s rights.
Indonesia incorporated the resource-rich but desperately poor western half of New Guinea in the 1960s after a UN-backed tribal vote which separatists condemn as a sham.
Few Indonesian military officers have faced justice for rights abuses dating back decades, including alleged crimes against humanity in East Timor and the killing of thousands of political activists during the Suharto dictatorship.
Papua and the Malukus have underground separatist movements which Indonesia regards as threats to its territorial unity. Activists are regularly given lengthy jail terms for crimes such as possessing outlawed rebel flags.

These are the Melanesian islands in Indonesia known as the Moluccas or Maluku. Back in the days the islands were the most important islands in the world, known as “the Spice Islands”. It is a place we truly can call paradise, its even more beautifull then Bali.
